The One Show’s Alex Jones to be replaced by Michelle Ackerley and Angela Scanlon during maternity leave
The heavily pregnant star is due to go on leave in the coming months, with the new presenters set to step in in January
THE One Show host Alex Jones will be replaced by two female presenters when she goes on maternity leave.
Michelle Ackerley and Angela Scanlon will alternate days and host alongside Matt Baker when Alex leaves in the coming months – with both expected to start in the New Year.
Alex has recently been showing off her growing baby bump as she continues to present the show, looking positively glowing on set.
But she’ll have to swap the sofa on set for one off camera as she prepares for the short career break to focus on her family.
Michelle will appear on Mondays and Tuesdays, with Angela covering Thursdays and Fridays, while they will both alternate on Wednesdays.
Meanwhile, Matt Baker will continue to be covered by guest presenters on Fridays.
Michelle said of the move: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining The One Show team. It’s one of the few programmes that really offers something for everyone and I can’t wait to be involved.
“Matt and Alex are such fantastic hosts and it’s a real privilege to be keeping Alex’s seat warm for her whilst she’s off on maternity leave.”
While Angela added: “I’m thrilled to be looking after Alex’s spot on the green sofa while she is away.
“I have always been a massive fan of The One Show and love being part of that wonderful family so I really can’t wait to get started.”
Angela currently co-hosts BBC Two’s Robot Wars as well as heading up a weekly show on Virgin Radio.
She has made documentaries for Ireland’s RTE, hosted holiday programme Getaways for BBC NI and presented live coverage of music festivals and BAFTA’s for BBC Three.
Michelle is part of BBC One’s Watchdog team, and presents Crimewatch Roadshow and Council House Crackdown for BBC One Daytime .
Both of the stars have presented and made films for The One Show in the past.
