X Factor bosses slammed after viewers accuse Ryan Lawrie of miming on live show
X FACTOR bosses faced fresh controversy tonight as they were forced to deny that RYAN LAWRIE had mimed through his latest performance.
Viewers were outraged on Saturday night as Ryan’s vocals could be heard loud and clear despite holding his microphone far away from his mouth.
The mysterious moment during his rendition of THE BEATLES’ Twist & Shout angered fans who believed he was lip-syncing — despite the fact he was supposed to be singing live.
The storm has sparked a stern rebuttal from the makers of the ITV show who are adamant that it was merely a trick of the eye.
An X Factor spokeswoman said: “All contestants sing live and no one mimes. Ryan’s mic was live throughout his performance.”
Ryan was towards the end of his performance when he moved the mic away from his mouth in order to climb back on to the stage behind him.
Yet his vocals still suspiciously rang out singing the lyrics “shake it, shake it, shake it baby” as he clambered up.
Droves of viewers took to social media to express their dismay at the incident on Saturday.
Simon Hall tweeted: “Ryan was miming rewind, and look at the last part when he jumps onto the small stage.”
David Young said: “Come on, Ryan wasn’t even singing live, you could see he was miming towards the end.”
Another Twitter user named Emma wrote: “Thought Ryan was pretty good until he slipped up and showed us he was blatantly miming”.
Yesterday an X Factor insider put the confusion down to the sound of backing vocals.
An ITV source said: “There were lots of backing vocals singing the ‘shake it, shake it’ part.
“No contestant has ever mimed on the X Factor during the live shows. It is a singing competition after all.”
Miming in the live shows is a sin — but for certain dodgy auditions turning the mics off would be a blessing.
