JLS singer JB Gill has waded into the Honey G debate and branded the controversial X Factor contestant a “gimmick.”

The boyband member-turned-farmer blasted the 36-year-old rapper and says she’s stealing a real singer’s place on the show.

He told The Sun Online: "For me I just think Honey G is too gimmicky. I think it's cool she's working as hard as anybody else but at the same time if you look at her talent, we know that she can't sing.

"Let's be real. For me her place, that place could have been given to somebody else that is trying to be a singer.

“That's no disrespect. I think she's great for what she does and she serves the purpose in terms of the whole show cause there's always one or two gimmicky artists but that's where I'm at."

JB isn’t the only one calling Honey G a gimmick, Professor Green also branded her one on This Morning – however Holly Willoughby came to her defence.

Quizzing him about the controversial rapper, Holly said: “I want to ask you about Honey G because she has really got to you.”

He conceded she had a “little bit” before adding: “My feeling with it is that it’s a gimmick right?”

Holly quickly jumped in to defend her saying: “I don’t think it is, I think that’s where you’re wrong.”

Phillip agreed saying: "She does appear to be taking it very seriously."

However, Professor Green wouldn't concede his point and said: "Bless her," before adding: "If you're a rapper you write your own lyrics and tell your own story so it's really difficult to attempt to be a credible rapper and come up with a song when the whole point of the show is to perform other people's music."

Holly quickly cut in with: "Is 'I say Honey, you say G' not her own? Come on!"

Pro Green put his head in his hands before replying: "You say Honey, I say crunchy nut."

"We all have a sense of humour about things but it's gone a bit far. Someone else could be in the show who has a chance at having a proper career in music, that's all I say.

"Simon Cowell signed Zig and Zag and he done alright with them, I might be wrong."
