New Walking Dead fan theory reveals why baseball bat weilding Negan is more evil than you thought

NEGAN goaded Daryl so he had an excuse to kill his friend and leave him with a burden of guilt claims a new Walking Dead fan theory.

In the first episode of the seventh series of the Walking Dead, viewers were left sickened as evil Negan bludgeoned caring Glenn over the head with his barbed-wire encrusted baseball bat, sickly dubbed Lucille.

But according to a new theory sweeping the internet, Negan orchestrated the whole situation so that he could break Daryl using his own emotions.

Daryl stood up to Negan after he began taunting and threatening Rosita, punching him in the face.

But rather than punishing Daryl, Negan smashed Glenn's brains out, right in front of his wife Maggie.

And according to one of the scribes at cult telly blog Screenrant, this was all part of a larger, evil plan.

They argue: "Negan may be evil, but he’s not stupid, and he was likely well aware that a hero like Daryl would have gladly sacrificed his own life to stop the torment of his makeshift family.

"Thus, Negan opted to punish Glenn for Daryl’s actions, cursing Daryl with the eternal guilt of causing his friend’s death."

Walking Dead producer Greg Nicotero appears to agree, telling Entertainment Weekly: "Daryl is the guy that would take a bullet for anybody.

"The reason he leapt out of that line was because Negan was bullying Rosita. The way he was standing in front of her screaming at her and shoving that bloody baseball bat in her face, he wasn’t going to take it.

"He wasn’t going to let Negan get away with it in front of anybody. I think he probably would have rather been the victim himself than have seen anyone else go.”

The episode shocked viewers, who were quick to label it the goriest thing they'd ever seen on TV.

While fans of the comics have always known Negan was going to be the worst threat Rick and the gang have ever faced, some fans were just not prepared for the gruesome slaughter that followed his arrival – or the vicious cruelty he inflicted on the gang.
