Terry Sanderson, 73, is suing Ms Paltrow for $300,000 — claiming he was left with brain injuries and broken ribs.

The actress, 50, is counter-suing for a token $1.

Mr Sanderson’s lawyer Kristin VanOrman asked if this was inspired by singer Ms Swift, who was awarded the same amount in damages in a sexual assault trial in 2017.

Ms Paltrow told the jury: “I think I said that I had not been familiar with [the Taylor Swift case] but I since am.”

She was then asked if she was friends with Ms Swift, and questioned about the sex toy.

This was an apparent reference to a 2021 video which showed her bagging up presents for celebrity friends, and cheekily including a vibrator in the one for Ms Swift.

Ms VanOrman asked: “Are you good friends with Taylor Swift?”

Ms Paltrow said: “No. I would not say we’re good friends. I would say we’re friendly.”

Ms VanOrman followed up: “You have never given Miss Swift personal, intimate gifts for Christmas?”

The line of questioning then ended when Ms Paltrow’s team objected on the grounds of relevance.

Later Ms VanOrman claimed a TV interview in which Ms Paltrow admits being “accident prone” showed she “lied under oath a number of times”.

After being challenged Ms VanOrman apologised and said she was referring to “prior inconsistent statements” rather than lies.

The trial over the accident at the Deer Valley Resort, Utah, continues.
