Sir Elton John, 76, reveals how he got fit for the final leg of his farewell tour
ELTON John got fit for the final leg of his farewell tour by walking six miles a week in his swimming pool — sideways.
Nearly five years after announcing his last ever run of live gigs, the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour began its final UK leg in Liverpool last week.
Sir Elton, 76, still has just under 50 shows to play on the tour — with three also in Ireland this week.
The schedule suffered long delays due to the pandemic. He also had several health scares including pneumonia and a hip replacement.
But Sir Elton revealed he took advantage of lockdown to build up a new fitness routine.
He said: “I get up, have breakfast and go for a walk in the pool. At my age that is the best thing I can do. I walk sideways and do about six miles a week.”
His last UK appearance will be at the Glastonbury Festival in June before his final date — in Sweden — the following month.
The star is giving up performing to spend more time with husband David Furnish, 60, and their sons Zachary, 12, and Elijah, ten.
This is the highest-grossing tour ever, reportedly making the star £650million from 278 shows.
