Fans gush with praise for Children in Need Rocks tribute to Sir Terry Wogan

The celebrity-studded concert at London's Royal Albert Hall paid tribute to the veteran broadcaster and charity supporter who died in January

SIR Terry Wogan's life was honoured during tonight's celebrity-studded Children in Need Rocks leaving fans of the broadcaster, who tragically died in January, in tears as they admitted the show "melted their heart."

The charity was close to Sir Terry's heart for a huge chunk of his career and the gig, aired on BBC One, continued to raise money in his memory.

DJ's Fearne Cotton and Greg James hosted the event at London's Royal Albert Hall with X Factor star Olly Murs opening proceedings with a Frank Sinatra classic.

He was followed up by boyband The Vamps, who took on one of Sir Terry's favourite Beach Boys hits, Surfin' USA.

Fans quickly took to social media to give the thumbs up to the jam-packed charity extravaganza.

The Bodyguard musical star Beverley Knight belted out Whitney Houston classic I Will Always Love You - yet producers failed to show her dramatic collapse on-stage during the filming of the show earlier this month.

Vocalists Michael Ball and Alfie Boe closed the show after Take That stole the audience's hearts with performances of Rule The World and Never Forget.

Ahead of the second tune, lead singer Gary Barlow said: "We are going to close the night with a song that's very apt for the evening it's, called Never Forget."

The 90-minute combination of music, celebrity tributes and throwback clips from Sir Terry's career - which included snippets of his Janet and John segment on Radio Two - had fans at home reaching for their tissues.

They took to Twitter in their droves, with one writing: Aw the tribute for Terry Wogan melts my heart and another added: That whole thing was both heart wrenching and joyous in equal measures," while one uploaded: "Feeling the love while watching Children In Need rocks for Terry."

One wrote: "Rocks indeed. . Great show. Miss you Sir Tez! Lots and lots!" while another added: "Nawww I miss Sir Terry Wogan, what a legend."

A touched telly fan wrote: "I'm so touched by 's fitting and emotional tribute to the legend that is Terry Wogan. He will be missed."

One of Sir Terry's female fans wrote: "Well that bought a tear to my eye! Still miss !"

One gushed: "What a Brilliant show tribute to Sir Terry Wogan lots of great performances by some amazing singers."

A TV fan added: "Loved the tribute to Sir Terry Wogan Children in need God Bless, Gone but never forgotten RIP x" while another shared their views, but thought the show should have a prime time slot, with "#TerryWogan a Monday night ?Sir Terry deserves a Saturday night prime spot #totallegend should release cd of Terry's fave tunes #fundraiser."
