Ex-Strictly Come Dancing and EastEnders star Kara Tointon opens up on battling the disorder
The actress admitted she didn't realise she 'did anything differently'
EX-EastEnders star Kara Tointon has opened up on her battle with dyslexia, admitting: "I didn’t realise I was doing anything different."
The star appeared on This Morning to discuss working on thriller Gaslight and documentaries after leaving Albert Square, and was praised by fans for the appearance.
Kara has revealed previously that she suffers from dyslexia and appeared in a BBC documentary about the condition.
Phillip Schofield pointed out today: "You've been quite open in the past about dyslexia," before asking how it feels seeing a new script.
Kara replied: "I think you go about your life and you deal with things how you deal with them.
"I didn't realise I did anything different to anyone else until I looked into it while doing the documentary, and it does take me a little time.
"It's not a problem. I have little techniques and mechanisms. I have these special glasses that are tinted green and it means I can read with a lovely flow, whereas before it was a bit stagnated. I don't really have any problems.
"I also have a really great long-term memory, so I remember things from years ago. When it's in, it's in."
As Holly asked if she remembered her Strictly dances, Kara responded: "I know that one routine, but I don't no."
Phil then pointed out "you nearly packed in" after EastEnders, as he referred to Kara's career in the limelight, but she insisted: "I did. But doing Strictly was me saying 'I'm going to do something else, but why not Salsa my way to it.
"I got back to where I wanted to be. I'm very fortunate."
The star received huge praise for her chat, as one fan tweeted: "Wow kara looked amazing this morning."
While another added: "Lovely to see @karatointon on This Morning looking as beautiful as ever. Good luck with 'Gaslight' x."
And one wrote: "Surprising revelation!"
Kara is well known for playing Dawn Swann on EastEnders, before waltzing her way back into the limelight on Strictly Come Dancing.
