WHAT can’t you miss on TV tonight? Our guide to the must-see shows…
NEW! Back In Time For Brixton, 9pm, BBC Two
Some fascinating social history from Giles Coren as he introduces east Londoners Janice and Weininger Irwin – and their four kids – to life as if they’d arrived as immigrants from Jamaica in 1948.
The experiment is harsh – on arrival they are housed in a bomb shelter that is damp and disgusting before they are allowed to live in one room in a Brixton slum.
Somehow, though, it’s the small moments of prejudice which are most shocking.
For example, when Weininger discovers the racism black bus conductors faced, with people refusing to touch them to get their change, it’s hard not to feel very sad.
And it certainly makes him appreciate what his Jamaican immigrant parents endured. It doesn’t just affect the family, either.
Watching on, Giles admits he feels guilt even now.
NEW! Two Doors Down, 10pm, BBC Two
The Scottish sitcom returns for a second series, and the Glaswegian neighbours are just as vile as before.
Cathy (Doon Mackichan) and Colin return from a cruise, with a gift for Beth and Eric (Alex Norton) – a giant leg of ham.
Sorry, jamón. It’s as coarse as ever but not without some razor-sharp lines. It definitely makes Monday nights easier to bear.
NEW! Our Guy in China, 9pm, Channel 4
The guy in question is, of course, Guy Martin, who’s got a new three-part series travelling around China exploring the country’s innovation and mass manufacturing.
He starts with a look at – what else? – motorbikes, before visiting a power station that’s moved so much water, it has slowed down the Earth’s rotation. Guy’s a great tour guide.
NEW! The Coroner, 2.15pm, BBC One
Claire Goose returns as West Country coroner Jane Kennedy, who investigates the death of a sky-diver whose parachute failed to open.
There’s excitement with motorbike chases and quicksand, and also some nice comic moments with Jane’s family.
Blimey, what with this, Moving On and The Moonstone, BBC daytime drama is really spoiling us.
