Who is Lady Colin Campbell?

Born in Jamaica on August 17, 1949, an anomaly meant that Lady C's parents assumed she was male and she was raised as a boy.

After struggling to get her parents to accept that she was, in fact, a girl, she moved to New York to study fashion, having corrective surgery at the age of 21.

By her own admission Lady C was desperate to get married and when she met British aristocrat Lord Colin Campbell in 1974, she married him after just five days.

The marriage was short-lived and they divorced in 1975 after just nine months together.

In 1993 Lady C adopted two Russian boys, Misha and Dima.

She enjoyed a new found fame when she took part in I'm a Celebrity 2015.

Was Lady Colin Campbell raised as a boy?

Unusually, Lady Colin Campbell was raised as a boy by her family and given the name George William Ziadie.

Despite relatives questioning her gender when she was just three years old, her parents continued to bring her up as George.

They also forced her to undergo traumatic hormone therapy treatment after refusing to accept that she might be a girl.

When she was 21, her grandmother gave her the money to undergo corrective surgery.

It was previously revealed that this was due to a genital malformation that misled doctors and families about her gender.

During an interview with Loose Women, she explained that any girls born with a deformity at the time of her birth - 1949 - were "given the superior sex."

The socialite said: "Because you were a deformity, you were never to have a life, and in those days it was better to be a man than a woman.

"[It was like] 'Give the child a break.' It was the medical policy at the time."

Back in 2016, Lady Colin Campbell discussed her trauma in a one-woman show at Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

"I had an odd upbringing - I was born with a deformity and brought up in the wrong gender. Scandal was the worst thing. And my father refused to do anything about it."

Yet the 69-year-old claims that she always knew she was a woman.

"Had I been born 20 years earlier, there wouldn't have been the surgical techniques to rectify the problem, and lot of my life would have been down the tubes.

"In a way, it was a plus - it was exotic. There was nothing unsavoury about it, everyone was compassionate about it."

Who was Lady Colin Campbell's husband?

Lady Colin Campbell married Lord Colin Ivar Campbell, the younger son of the eleventh Duke of Argyll, in March 1974.

She said: ";He had the strongest personality of anyone I had ever met - he simply exuded strength, decisiveness and charm."

The couple honeymooned in Jamaica and met Lord Colin's family at his ancestral home of Inveraray Castle in Argyll.

However, one month later a journalist unearthed her birth certificate, leading to false accusations she was transsexual.

Following the revelations, Lady Colin left her husband after nine months, citing his abusiveness and drug addiction. They divorced four months later.

In The Sun on Sunday, Lord Colin Campbell revealed he could not bring himself to touch his wife after she told him about her shocking past.

Speaking in his first interview for 40 years, he said: "I was stunned. I simply could not believe what I was hearing.

After she told me I could not even bring myself to look at my wife, let alone touch her.

My brother, the Duke of Argyll, called me and asked: ‘Do you realise you have married a man?’

She was a beautiful, flirtatious young woman when I met her. But I soon discovered that she is trouble with a capital T.

If I could offer any advice to the other contestants in the jungle it would be to avoid her at all costs.”

Does Lady Colin Campbell have children?

Lady Colin adopted twin boys in 1993 - Dima and Misha Ziadie who are both 26.

In 2018, she told Hello: "I love them and they mean everything to me.

"I couldn't have a child myself so I decided to adopt and they have bought greater meaning to my life."

However, her domestic life has also attracted some controversy.

One year after the adoption, she risked losing her sons after an investigation by social services was sparked by claims her children lived in squalor and were covered in dog bites.

The allegations were made by a friend who wanted to "seize" the twins and raise them herself.

Dima has previously spoken out in praise of his mother, telling the Mirror that he was deeply proud of her.

He gushed: "She’s an inspiration to me...with age and time I’ve realised that many errors could have been prevented by listening to her advice.";

What is her net worth?

Lady Colin Campbell is believed to be worth $9 million (£7.4 million), according to .

This isn't all that surprising when considering the number of television appearances she's done over the years.

While we're not exactly sure how much Lady Colin would charge as her fee, given that she's so entertaining, it'll probably be a fairly high number.
