Les Dennis killed off on Coronation Street as Pat Phelan watches Michael Rodwell suffer heart attack in front of him
Watch out men of Weatherfield! Gail's a widow.... again
LES Dennis met a grisly end in tonight's Coronation Street - and fans are devastated.
The telly funnyman's character, Michael Rodwell, paid the ultimate price for feuding with Cobbles-bothering conman thug Pat Phelan - his life.
Michael suffered a fatal heart-attack right in front of the evil scammer, who appeared to take glee in watching Michael gasp for breath in front of him.
He growled: "It just so happens your time's up," after recalling a horrific story about shooting a rabbit as a child and watching it slowly die.
Phelan then walked off, leaving Michael to die alone on the cold muddy ground of a building site.
Michael has been digging into the scheming character, and is convinced Phelan and Vinny’s property development is bogus after hearing them discussing Mexico over the phone - and he discovered he was right moments before he died.
Earlier this week, Les gave some hints about Michael's demise.
He said: "Phelan had met his match in Michael and we will see what happens. Coronation Street has been the most wonderful show to be part of.
"To play a character I hope will have made an impact has been great. The Platts are a dynasty and I’ve had the best time."
Fans weren't happy to see the back of Les' character, who has become a firm favourite with viewers.
One made a cheeky reference to his previous gig hosting Family Fortunes, including three crosses in his tweet.
He wrote: "Our survey said: XXX RIP Michael."
Others were aghast that Phelan left him to die in the street.
Producers previously revealed that Les' character will come to a ‘dramatic end’ - and they weren't kidding.
It was previously thought that Les’ departure might well tie in with Corrie bosses’ plans for a “huge explosion” which The Sun exclusively revealed will kill off at least one more character as well as Kylie Platt (Paula Lane).
It means that Gail is a widow for the umpteenth time after she made Michael her fourth husband after she caught him trying to burgle her home.
The TV funnyman has played burglar-turned-taxi driver Michael on the hit ITV soap since 2014.
Yet despite saying the role had been a “dream come true” he announced he was quitting the show at the end of the year.
