SWEARING ALLEGIANCE

I’ve sworn in front of King Charles plenty of times, reveals Sharon Osbourne

AS one of the most recognisable women in the entertainment business, Sharon Osbourne has long been the Queen of showbiz royalty.

And who could forget, she herself is married to the Prince of Darkness. But when it comes to the real royal family, it turns out Mrs O is no stranger to the company of King Charles and Queen Camilla.

“Charles and Camilla are wonderful and I love them very much,” Sharon says.

“Camilla has a wicked sense of humour and is very naughty. And Charles is so incredibly caring. He is a great guy and so relatable.”

Sharon’s relationship with the couple started many years ago and their paths have crossed a number of times since, including at private dinner parties and public charity functions.

“I’ve sworn in front of Charles plenty of times,” laughs Sharon. “He never says anything, he just looks and thinks, ‘Oh here she is’.

“He really is the most incredible man and he truly makes the most amazing first impression.”

Along with hundreds of millions of people around the world, Sharon will watch Charles’ accession to the throne at 11am on Saturday.

She will also co-present a five-hour long TalkTV Coronation Watchalong covering the momentous day with fellow TalkTV presenter Vanessa Feltz.

Ahead of the Coronation, Sharon, 70, helped get the British public in the mood for celebrating by travelling around London on TalkTV’s London tour bus where she stopped off to meet the royal fans who have flocked to the capital to catch a glimpse of the action at Westminster Abbey.

In an exclusive interview from the top of the double decker, Sharon says: “I covered the Queen’s Golden Jubilee from inside Buckingham Palace’s gardens and that is still one of the highlights of my career.

“When we got on board the bus we did a cheers and we said, ‘God Save The King’.

“People should be getting behind this. I hope people look at all the amazing things Charles has done and then make their minds up.

“I will be making my pledge to him loud and proud. You can see I am over the moon to be here. I absolutely love it.”

Sharon’s 5,400 mile journey back to Blighty for the Coronation was almost scuppered before she even left Los Angeles however.

She laughs: “They weren’t going to let me on the flight because I had too many bags. I had 25.

“It was money that got me on in the end, I had to pay for every bag that was over a certain weight.

“I’m only staying for two weeks but I am one of these people who when they pack they think, just in case.

“So I pack for just in case it’s raining, or just in case there is a party – so everything goes in.”

Safely ensconced on the top deck of the bus with a glass of fizz, Sharon is ready and raring to get the celebrations started.

“Occasions like this bring people together,” she says proudly.

“All of my family over here in the UK are having street parties.

“And how many countries can say that they have a King? And this is a King who does not stay away. He gets down with the people and is totally involved with all the charities he runs.

“People wrote Charles off as old and crazy when he was talking about plastics in the oceans and concerns about the environment years ago. But look at it now.

“If you look at what Charles was campaigning for back then and everything he believed in back then – it has all gone full circle and now everyone is saying what he said.

“He led the way with recycling, the environment, organic farming, everything – he was there.

“And if you look at how much he has done with young people with The Prince’s Trust, you can see he helps so many from all different walks of life.”

It is not just Charles who Sharon admires.

On the day of Charles’ accession, Camilla will be by his side and will also be anointed and crowned Queen.

Sharon explains: “The reason Camilla is loved by the people is because she has worked so hard.

“Camilla is very grounded as a person. She is not someone who lives inside a bubble. She is a really good, strong woman.

“And Charles and Camilla have a real love story. In my opinion it is like a Shakespearian play.

“Eventually it turned out okay for them but it took such a long time to get her. It is a proper love story.”

Tourists and Brits alike stop to snap photographs of the TalkTV tour bus and Sharon as it weaves through some of London’s most iconic streets and past recognisable locations including Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral and The Ritz.

As the bus travels through the bustling streets, it is clear Sharon could not be happier to be back in the UK covering the momentous occasion for TalkTV.

Her fondness for Charles and Camilla extends to Prince William and Prince Harry, both of whom will be attending the Coronation.

Harry will not be in the country for long however, with insiders confirming he will leave immediately after the ceremony to return to the US where he lives with his wife Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Sharon admits she is pleased Harry took up Charles’ invitation to attend his accession.

She says: “I think Harry has done the right thing by coming over.

“I think if he hadn’t everyone here would have been so disappointed.

“The invite is an olive branch and the Coronation is a time for Harry to be back with his family.”

Sharon, who is mum to Aimee, 39, Kelly, 38, and Jack, 37, with Black Sabbath rocker Ozzy, adds: “It is like any family, there is always an issue.

“Every family has a black sheep. In every family there is the baddie boy, there is the good boy, all families are the same.

“One moment one kid is in favour while the other kid is out, that is the way it goes.

“Unfortunately their family has the whole world looking at them.

“But this has to end, they need to draw the line and move on as a family.”

Sharon’s own family will be celebrating the Coronation just like her.

Ozzy, 74, is at their home in the US where the couple are overseeing a move back to the UK after decades of living across the pond.

So could a return to their home in Buckinghamshire, coupled with Sharon’s affections for King Charles and Camilla finally result in a knighthood for Ozzy – an honour his fans have been campaigning for since 2013.

Sharon says: “Do you know why I think the fans want the knighthood? Ozzy is a working class hero and he has never tried to be anything else.

“He still has a working class mentality. Ozzy has been working and earning a living for over 60 years. He got his job at 14 and he has worked ever since.

“Ozzy is a regular bloke with a big heart who made it out of the slums of Birmingham and he did it.

“I am so proud of him and how far he has come.”

It seems surely it is now only a matter of time before Ozzy gets his honour. And maybe King Charles could throw in a Damehood for Sharon while he’s at it.
