The 40-year-old said: “The thing that p**ses me off is that I’m really honest, so I would say it had been axed if it had been axed.”

“I am not too proud to be axed, but it gives off the wrong impression because it wasn’t. I just wanted to do something different. I don’t know what I am going to get from two more series of a chat show because it’s the same old, same old.”

As a result, the comic is back on Channel 4 with a new, fresher format, Alan Carr’s Happy Hour. Airing in a prime time Friday-night slot, Alan describes it as an “unadulterated hour of fun and happiness” that blends lots of different genres together.

He added:“It’s not a chat show, so we can play around more.”
