Bad Santa 2 is just the same as the original with lazy jokes and a lame plot – so what is the point?
This will probably do quite well, but no one will like it
Bad Santa 2
(15) 92mins
THE original Bad Santa defied all expectations with its funny, original, foul-mouthed anti-Christmas sentiment (with a few feel-good moments). Fine, I accept that, I really do.
Quite why, 13 years later, this sequel was made I have no idea... Billy Bob Thorton must have thought Christm... oh forget it.
This is pretty much the same as the first movie, except words have been adjusted slightly - and my wonderful reader, I confess - I just don't like the humour. I'm up for dark and nasty with the best of you - but this is just... lazy and lame.
You know the drill - there's a small person dressed as an elf - I get it - but please keep reminding me. He's drunk! He swears at the end of every sentence! I KNOW! Don't even get me started on Christina Hendricks sidelined as the love interest - a great actress who has fought against misogyny and sexism since rising to fame as Jane in Mad Men - basically spending a couple of hours getting taken from behind and talking about her big t**s. Way to go Hollywood.
Here she spends a couple of hours doing little more than talking about her breasts. Wow.
Way to go Hollywood.
This is one of those films that will probably do quite well but no-one in their right minds will like.
It is cinema’s Trump – the Christmas movie 2016 deserves.
