Schofield, 61, was wearing his wedding ring and appeared to be carrying a plastic bag and a duffel bag

It is understood Schofield - seen wearing a grey Ralph Lauren sweater and blue jeans - made the trip to Cornwall to celebrate his mum Pat's 87th birthday.

The passer-by said: "He was walking past my car. I waited for him to go past and he smiled and said thank you.

"He looked very tired and just gave me a dry smile and a thanks as I let him go past."

Schofield was also spotted looking glum yesterday - after it was revealed his ex-lover will "have his say" in ITV's external investigation.

Meanwhile, his former co-presenter Holly Willoughby wore tiny shorts and shades as she boarded a helicopter to Glastonbury with her husband Dan and pals.

Schofield was forced to quit This Morning in late May after his relationship with a runner came to light.

He has barely been seen in public since, keeping a very low profile.

The last time he was seen in Cornwall was not long after he had been axed from the ITV show.

The 61-year-old was snapped comforting his mum on a bench overlooking the ocean in Newquay.

It comes after Elton John yesterday lashed out as he gave his verdict on Schofield's affair.

The 76-year-old slammed Brits' reaction to the affair - calling it "totally homophobic".

He said that a heterosexual relationship with a similar age gap would not have gained so much negative attention.

Earlier this month the shamed host exclusively opened up to The Sun about the affair.

He described the moment the relationship with the young runner started in a dressing room after a This Morning episode.

The former host revealed he worked with the colleague for a short period and had become friends.

He said: “Then one day something happened that just changed it. That is the moment I look back on, and regret so deeply.

“It was in my dressing room in 2017, it was a consensual moment, it was mutual.

“It was not a love affair, it was not a relationship, we were not boyfriends; we were mates.

“It wasn’t feelings (I was getting), it was more like mates: excitement.
