How to download shows and films on Netflix after new ‘offline’ feature is launched
The streaming media company has finally caught up with Amazon Video
DISGRUNTLED Netflix users finally had their wishes granted today when the streaming media company announced it now allows subscribers to download content to view offline.
After months of rumours Netflix made Christmas come early for users with this exciting new feature.
It means people can now watch will allow people to catch their favourite shows on the go and away from any WiFi hotspots, ideal for those in an area with poor internet connection.
But how can users download shows on Netflix? Here’s what we know.
How can I download content from Netflix for offline viewing?
International subscribers using the Netflix app on their iPads, iPhones or Androids will now see a ‘download and watch’ icon next to programme information.
If they click the icon, the show will download to their device. There is a choice between downloading videos in “standard” quality or “higher” quality, which has a higher resolution but takes up more storage space.
The new download feature comes at no extra cost to users.
Are all shows and movies available for download?
The streaming firm’s director of product innovation Eddy Wu said: “Many of your favourite streaming series and movies are already available for download, with more on the way, so there is plenty of content available for those times when you are offline.”
Shows available for download include the company’s most popular ones such as Orange Is The New Black, Gilmore Girls, The Crown, Peep Show and Narcos.
Why have Netflix decided to do this now?
Bosses didn’t explain their reasons for today’s announcement but the company has been under pressure from users to make downloading shows offline an option for quite some time now, especially as Amazon Video have had this option for a year.
