BIG BANG CHEERY

Ant and Dec received an email from Professor Stephen Hawking after they made ‘distasteful’ joke

The Geordie duo’s sketch resulted in viewer uproar, but what DID the professor make of it?

PROFESSOR Stephen Hawking contacted Ant and Dec following their sketch about him on I’m a Celebrity which many viewers found “distasteful.”

The joke came about after Scarlett Moffatt revealed that she once emailed a Hotmail account she believed belonged to the physicist to share her theory on time travel and pyramids, in the following live segment Ant and Dec pretended to call him and spoke to an automated voice similar to the electronic one the professor uses.

While many fans of the show branded the joke “distasteful”, “low” and “not cool”, Professor Hawking apparently “enjoyed” it, and even emailed the presenters to share his opinion.

“We got an email from Stephen Hawking after that,” Dec told The Mirror.

“He said he enjoyed her thoughts on the pyramids and enjoyed the sketch that we did in the studio. So that was a highlight.”

Unfortunately neither revealed whether the email came for a Hotmail account, or even an old yahoo address.

And for those of you who aren’t familiar with the jungle queen’s theory on time travel, let us share her pearls of wisdom.

“I once emailed [Stephen Hawking] about my theory on time travel.

“In order to travel back in time we have to go faster than the speed of light,” she told Sam Quek, Lisa Snowdon and Adam Thomas.

“The speed of light is like 319 and then loads of numbers, it’s exactly the same latitude point as the tip of the great Pyramid.

“So I think the pyramids are from the future, I think someone from the future realised we would need them and went back in time and built them.”

Lisa then asked: “And you contacted Stephen Hawkins with this theory?”

Scarlett replied: “Well I was trying to look for his email address but it was a Hotmail account so I’m not too sure it’s real.”
