Noel Gallagher turned down offer to perform on Strictly Come Dancing because he thought bosses thought he was ‘desperate’
The High Flying Birds frontman was out of the limelight for two years after Oasis split
NOEL Gallagher has revealed he turned down an offer to appear on Strictly Come Dancing.
The High Flying Birds frontman said he was approached by bosses of the show to perform on the show about four years ago.
But the former Oasis star said he turned it down because he thought BBC bosses thought he was “desperate”.
Speaking to last night, Noel said: “It was just when Oasis split up and I didn’t do anything for like a couple of years.
“There’s obviously someone there going ‘You know what. He’ll be up for it now. He’ll be desperate now.’
“My manager called me up, saying I don’t really want to, legally, I have to inform you of this. Are you aware of Strictly Come Dancing?’ ‘EEE, the phone goes’.”
Noel, 49, added that he was also asked to go on Top Gear – even though he can’t drive.
He said: ““I was asked to go on Top Gear a lot and they would never ever seem to realise what I was saying when I say ‘But I can’t drive.’ ‘Don’t worry about that, Jeremy will sort that out.’
“It’s like, ‘How? I can’t drive. I haven’t got a licence I cannot drive a car’. ‘Don’t worry about that, The Stig will teach you.’”
His host then asked him if his daughter Anais wanted to see him perform on anything, to which Noel replied: “Yeah, she wanted me to do the X Factor.
“Yeah. I can’t be bothered being on, it’s hard work all that kind of thing, you know what I mean.
“You’d have to be there every Saturday night. As well as sitting there in, you know, Birmingham Arena, sitting there thinking ‘Kill me now’.

“Someone else flying without wings. This is just appalling. Clearly, you know, ‘no’.”
Oasis split up in 2009 after Noel fell out rather publicly and dramatically with brother Liam just as they were about to headline the V Festival.
They had a massive altercation backstage and Noel declared he was leaving.
He then went on to form High Flying Birds and Liam created his own band, Beady Eye.
But recent reports have suggested the siblings will reunite for a reunion tour in 2017.
Australian music site claimed a “UK rock band from the 90s with a very close connection to Liam Gallagher” are alleged to “have been tapped as the opening act” for reunion shows.
