Sources also revealed that Simon will also be returning to the panel but it's unclear if Nicole Scherzinger or Sharon Osbourne will be back on our screens next year.

Insiders told the paper that Sharon is "90% certain to rejoin if she can meet her US commitments" but her co-panellist Nicole is unsure as she is reportedly "holding out in the hope of relaunching her solo career".

Meanwhile, Rylan Clark-Neal and Matt Edmondson are believed to be returning to the Xtra Factor despite saying they didn't view the gig as "a job for life".

After losing out on the presenting gig last year to Olly Murs and Caroline Flack, Dermot has added another string to his bow by writing a kids' novel.

The 43-year-old exclusively told The Sun he is half way through writing the book, which he is dedicating to his niece.

And he told how it could lead to a series, after his literary bosses demanded more material.

He said: “I’m taking a bit of time off next year and I’ll be doing some writing.

"I did a book a couple of years ago about me, but now I’m writing a novel, a kids’ book.

“For the last book I had to give them thousands of words for July and it was terrifying but it’s not easy writing a kids novel."

“I’ve got to deliver it by the end of January and I’m half way through.

“I don’t know if it will be like David Walliams’ books, because I don’t read kids’ books.

"This idea just came to me, I pitched it and we got it away.

“They liked it, and asked: ‘Have you got more?’ So now I’ve got to think of more ideas.”

Despite the extra pressure, Dermot insisted he will be returning to X Factor next year.

And he added: “I am really hoping all the judges will be as well.”

Dermot will be hosting The X Factor Final on ITV from 8pm.
