The singer beat Finnish songstress Saara Aalto to the title after a thrilling finale
MATT Terry has won The X Factor 2016.
The singer from Bromley has won the recording contract with Simon Cowell's Syco after beating Finnish songstress Saara Aalto to the title.
"Thank you so much everybody," Matt said as he won.
"You came into this final as good artists, you ended as great artists.," said Simon Cowell. "What I promise you Matt, we will give you one hundred percent, you deserve this opportunity."
"I'm just so happy for Matt, I love you," said Saara just before Matt was sent onto the stage to perform the winner's single which was written by Ed Sheeran.
The song, When Christmas Comes Around, is a holiday themed ballad and was co-written by Amy Wadge just two weeks ago before being sent to Simon Cowell for consideration.
Viewers LOVED it and took to social media to praise the song and call for it to go to number one.
"Ed Sheeran could write a number one blindfolded, kept hostage by pirates, whilst juggling and making a 5 course Michelin meal," tweeted one.
"Absolutely love the winners single, guaranteed number 1 @MattTerry93," added another.
It was revealed on spin-off show The Xtra Factor that Matt had topped the voting on six weeks, but not in the two previous weeks to the final.
Then Saara was the top pick for viewers, and on two occasions Emily Middlemas and 5 After Midnight topped the voting.
Twenty-three year old Matt Terry auditioned for the first time this year and immediately struck a chord with fans at home and the judges.
The former waiter left his job after his girlfriend dumped him, and hoped that a shot at the X Factor would bag him a shot on the show.
He told the panel: “Music is my passion and it would be a dream come true to make it through. It’s why I’m here.”
The judges put him through after hearing his rendition of Stand By Me by Ben E. King.
The star on-the-rise tugged at the heartstrings of viewers everywhere by announcing in his first audition that he had just had his heart broken by his long-term girlfriend.
However, The Sun exclusively revealed that the couple had rekindled their romanceduring the show and were even living together.
Matt attended the D&B Academy of Performing Arts in Kent to learn his craft – which has now become the setting for reality show Stage School on E4.
