Coronation Street fans left creeped out as evil Pat Phelan breaks the fourth wall
The crooked businessman did something pretty much unheard of in soap land
CORONATION Street fans were left creeped out tonight as Pat Phelan broke the fourth wall with a look of pure evil.
The crooked businessman, played by Connor McIntyre, was in Eileen’s house looking for somewhere to live among the newspaper listings, when the conversation turned to his hate mail.
Phelan, who knows it’s his ex-fling Anna Windass sending him the letters after he saw her post one through the door, told Eileen that he didn‘t want to take the matter further.
He said he felt sorry for her and was planning to have a quiet word with her, to which Eileen replied: “You’re a very forgiving man, Pat Phelan.”
As she walked off, Phelan gives a resigned look – before looking directly at the camera and glaring.
And immediately, one fan of the soap took to Twitter to say how much it had creeped them out.
The user, called @IncrediblyRich, wrote: “Pat Phelan just broke the fourth wall on #Corrie and now I don't know what to think about anything. Wtf.”
Another added: “That Phelan makes my skin crawl,” while another said: “Way hey! Pat Phelan's opening the show. Fireworks, deception, lies, dastardly acts. Marvellous!”
Back in October, viewers saw Anna almost get burned alive after she got caught up in David Platt’s plot to avenge his wife Kylie’s murder.
After she bravely showed her scars to new love Kevin Webster, Phelan tracked her down to the café and made some evil remarks about her injuries including, “Can I smell burning? Oh, it’s just you.”

He then threatened her and demanded she stop sending the letters otherwise “you’ll have a lot more than looking like Freddy Krueger to worry about”.
Something which also didn’t go down well with the fans who took to Twitter to slam the character.
One wrote, “There's never anybody around, conveniently, when Phelan's being vitriolic to Anna,” while another added: “That was harsh what Phelan said, I’m shocked it’s been aired.”
But Phelan may be about to get his comeuppance after Anna confided in Kevin who then went looking for the Scouser.
