Speaking on Loose Women today, Amanda was speaking to panellists Andrea McLean, Kaye Adams, Katie Price and Nadia Sawalha when she joked about losing the top gong.

After watching her tear-jerking death scene, she said: "I have to say it was the only time I was nominated for anything in television - I was nominated for best exit.

"But I didn't win because the Yorkshire Terrier in Emmerdale beat me to it.

"I nearly died! The b***h!"

Amanda revealed it was the only time she was up for an award...and she lost it to a dog

Kaye then quipped: "Well that would be factually correct, because it was a little girl dog" and Amanda added: "It was a girl dog actually".

Speaking about her character dying following a long battle with cervical cancer, Amanda said she got involved with raising awareness as a result of the storyline.

Kaye said: "It was an important story at the time because it was cervical cancer that Alma had and I remember a lot of talk about it."

Amanda added: "I got very involved because I thought oh my goodness if soap operas do stories about cancers they have got to do them absolutely right."
