James Arthur hits back at X Factor winner Matt Terry after his comments on drugs
The Impossible singer took to his Twitter page to respond to Matt's insistence he would lead a clan lifestyle - unlike other show winners
JAMES Arthur has hit back at X Factor winner Matt Terry after he insisted he would "never" turn to drugs and fall foul of the mistakes of past show champions.
The Impossible singer, who was fans' favourite in 2012, has been candid about his addiction to anti-depressants, and took to Twitter to defend himself.
James posted: "I ain't cursed bro," followed by a rolling eyes Emoji.
He added: "I did some drugs and got lost yeah but even strong minded people do that."
Yet seemingly dispelling any bad feeling, he added the hashtag #LOVE.
During a recent interview X Factor's Matt, who was crowned show champion last Sunday, said: “I’ve never ever done drugs and I never will.
“I’m a strong-minded person and I will only do something if I want to do something.
“I come from a very grounded family – normal people – so for me it’s really important to stay who I am.”
This year’s victor – who beat Finnish singer Saara Aalto to the top spot – told instead of drugs, he would rely on smiles.
He added: ““I never take anything too seriously.
“I like to laugh everything off and make sure it’s about having a good time and being happy.
“That’s what I’m going to do.”
After spotting James' speedy reply, Matt sent him a message to try to clear things up.
He denied he had aimed his words at the Middlesbrough lad and wrote: "To me you've always been an inspiration."

Meanwhile James has also set his sights on pop princess Ariana Grande.
- who has been celebrating a whirlwind comeback year - made his confession of admiration during his concert at the Metro Arena in Newcastle.
Seizing his opportunity, he asked his fans for their help to get Ariana to ‘slide into his DM’s’ (privately message him on Twitter).
Within minutes of taking to the stage, he said: "Right my first song is going to be an Ariana Grande song ‘Into You’ because I'm hoping you all will video it, she sees it and then she can gladly slide into my DM's.”
However, unfortunately for the single star, who has been previously connected to a string of beautiful women, it appears his request didn’t quite get to the beautiful songstress – and he wrote on Twitter that he was still open to availability.
Responding to a fan’s comment that she “wanted to marry his voice”, James responded: “Always the voice! Does nobody wanna marry the man!?”
James has cemented his return to the UK music scene after successfully reviving his career thanks to his new album, Back from the Edge.
The former X Factor winner has clawed his way back to the top spot after being dropped from SyCo records two years ago after failing to launch his music career off the back of the show.
