Daniel Craig is almost unrecognisable wrapping up in a chunky coat and hat after ‘stalemate’ with film producers
The star has yet to sign up to play the Special Agent in the next movie
JAMES Bond hunk Daniel Craig seemed eager to go unnoticed in the New York crowds, looking almost unrecognisable in a chunky coat and hat amid film producers' fears he has gone "off grid."
The Hollywood star has yet to sign a contract to resume the iconic special agent role in what will be the 25th instalment of the franchise.
His lack of commitment is said to have left producers "panicking" but the actor didn't seem too troubled as he headed out for lunch.
The only clue to his superstar status was his trendy black Aviator sunglasses which peeked out from under the rim of his woolly blue hat.
Daniel, who has played the suave spy for the past four films, braved the plunging temperatures in his stylish shearling jacket and black jeans.
He wore chunky boots to wade through the snow with his lunch, which he clutched in a brown paper bag.
Clearly intending to head home quickly, he had a determined expression on his face as he glanced to one side before crossing the road.
The British star, 48, appeared to be keeping a low profile amidst debate about his future.
After being sketchy about whether he would again play Bond following last year's blockbuster hit movie, Spectre, a number of actors including Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and Tom Hiddleston were rumoured to bag his job.
Yet after not officially announcing his resignation, we reported this week producers' claims they had come to a stalemate - leaving them on the brink of a crisis.
MGM executives are reportedly at a “stalemate” with the 48-year-old star – with little contact between the camps.
An insider : “Daniel and MGM are currently at a stalemate with him having not spoken to them about Bond.
“They have offered a bigger wage deal, and asked about his filming availability to his reps in 2017, but as yet they have not spoken to Daniel.
“They want Bond 25 out in October 2018, but currently they have no Bond, film dates or knowledge of when that will change.
“Daniel’s commitment is also a key part of whether Sony Pictures will come in to co-finance the film. So much is hanging in the air – and no-one knows.”
