Tennis ace Andy Murray says stingy mum Judy gives him £2 and a tangerine for Christmas
The world number one said his mum always gets him a stocking but 'it's always the same stuff'
ANDY Murray gets a £2 coin and a tangerine from his mum at Christmas.
The tennis No 1 said thrifty Judy, 57, also puts pants and socks in stockings for him and brother Jamie, 30.
There may also be a travel game or two — but it all comes to less than a fiver.
Andy Murray, 29, said: “Mum always struggles a bit with presents. She always gives us a stocking. We get a £2 coin now — we used to get 50p.
“And we get a tangerine, the usual stuff — socks, pants, a couple of games to play that we can travel with.
“It’s always the same stuff most years.”
Judy said: “They are in a position to buy themselves whatever they like.
“They live so much of their lives in and out of hotel rooms, they leave their toilet bags behind on a regular basis, so they are always running out.
“So that’s the sort of thing that never goes wrong, and sometimes I think it’s the simple things that bring the most joy.”
It will be Judy’s first Christmas with her new granddaughter this year, who Andy’s wife Kim Sears, also 29, gave birth to in February.
But the tennis coach confessed that there would be “no chance” she will be purchasing Andy’s first daughter, Sophia Olivia, a tennis racket.
