Great British Bake Off star Sue Perkins set to entertain millions of drivers at Christmas as voice of sat nav app Waze
Cheeky presenter Sue will keep drivers amused on long journeys
SUE Perkins has swapped The Great British Bake Off for a gig as the voice of sat nav app Waze.
The former Bake Off host, 47, will entertain millions of drivers up and down the nation this Christmas stuck in traffic chaos.
She is set to bring her famous innuendo filled one liners to the helpful gadget in a bid to keep drivers amused.
She said: “Everyone knows you need to turn Waze on at Christmas.
“Cause just listening to the sound of my voice will for one second make you forget that you’ve got to go to your aunty’s house for really overcooked brussels.”
Joking about a gig on BBC’s Top Gear, she said: “I’ve always thought I’ve had all the elements needed to make a go of Top Gear.
“I’m a really fast driver, I have scant regard for health and safety and I’ve punched several co-workers.”
Sue quit Bake Off in September this year after news emerged that the show would be switching to Channel 4 after the BBC failed to meet demands for more cash.
In a joint statement, duo Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc said: “We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home. We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was.
“The BBC nurtured the show from its infancy and helped give it its distinctive warmth and charm, growing it from an audience of two million to nearly 15 at its peak.”
“We’ve had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps.
“We’re not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success.”
Judge Mary Berry later jumped ship leaving Paul Hollywood as the only original talent to join the revamped show on its new channel.
The foursome recently recorded a Christmas special of the baking show set to be shown on Christmas Day.
Speaking about her new gig, Sue added: “I have been half of the voice of baked goods for seven years, so to now be the exclusive voice of something is like a dream come true.
“It’s fascinating to know that thousands of ‘Wazers’ will download my voice this Christmas and trust me to guide them through the streets of Britain.
“I’ll be the first to get on board and download myself, after all nothing could be more fun than drawing 2016 to a close by sitting in my very own narcissistic echo chamber.”
Sue’s guide to driving…
- “Ready. Steady. BAKE! I mean Drive. DRIVE! Sorry, force of habit.”
- “OK let’s go. Just calculating the proximity of snacks. Ohh apple crumble in 1.2 miles.”
- “Heavy traffic reported ahead. Which gives me the chance to tell you about the history of baking powder. In 1842…”
- “We’re ready to ‘roll’. Yes, I am going to be this ‘perky’ for the entire journey.”
- “You have reached your destination. DON’T LEAVE ME! Sorry I have abandonment issues.”
Mel and Sue will reunite next year for BBC One’s Let’s Sing and Dance For Comic Relief—where celebs will go head to head performing famous dance routines and songs.
