Ed Sheeran confirms his new music will be released on FRIDAY in quirky Twitter video
Singer delighted fans with a New Year's Day gift on social media
ED Sheeran has got 2017 off to an amazing start for his fans by confirming his new music will drop on Friday.
The Thinking Out Loud singer teased his latest project on Twitter after a one year absence last month.
But as people woke up and nursed their hangovers on Sunday morning following their New Year's Eve celebrations, they had reason to jump out of bed with delight.
In a nine second video, Ed held up a piece of paper which read: "New music coming Friday!!"
As he continued to hold the piece of paper, he gave a slow wave to the camera while he smiled down the lens, before placing the piece of paper in his mouth.
Wearing a cream jumper and glasses, the 25-year-old looked relaxed ahead of his big music comeback.
His fans however, were practically hyperventilating at the news, posting on Twitter in their droves about their excitement.
Referencing how bad 2016 had been in terms of celebrity deaths in the music world as well as Brexit and Donald Trump winning the American election, one supporter simply wrote: "You saved 2017".

Ed had teased new music in December, when he shared a cryptic tweet featuring a pale blue square.
The singer had also changed his profile picture to the blue box, and his fans were quick to reply to share their delight at his return.
One Twitter user wrote: "welcome back GEEZE TOOK LONG ENOUGH" while another added: "at the same day, hour and minute omg I'm so proud".
A third simply wrote: "I CANT WAIT FOR WHATEVER IT IS" while another went to the extreme, writing: "AND JUST ON TIME TO SAVE 2016".
Some fans immediately assumed the blue box was a clue about Ed's next album, which would be a follow up to his 2014 smash hit X.
