Coronation Street fans delighted after Mary decides to stay on the cobbles and has tearful reunion with Norris
The beloved character was meant to leave tonight with son Jude - but returned after realising Weatherfield was her home
CORONATION Street fans were left delighted this evening after Mary decided to stay in Weatherfield.
The Corrie favourite seemed to have the classic black cab exit as she made her way to the airport with her long lost son Jude - but, alas, it was not meant to be.
After attending the Rover's Return for a last knees-up with pals, Mary appeared slightly sad at the prospect of leaving everyone behind.
Norris had abruptly left her party, but his true feeling were revealed when he was seen crying on the staircase in his house.
But at the end of the episode there was a knock at Norris' door and Mary was there and admitted that she couldn't go to South Africa because all of her friends were here.
She surprised Norris at his front door and told him: "I couldn't go through with it."
He asked her about her son, to which she revealed "he understands" and that he had gone back without her.
Norris asked whether she was sure about this, but was clearly happy to have her back.
She said: "Of course I am, this is my home. Everybody I love is here."
At that, Norris welled up and the pair had a big hug.
And fans were ecstatic that the Corrie favourite had decided to stay.
One tweeted: "That's one less goodbye tweet I'll have to write, so glad Mary is staying! Such a funny and warm character. #Corrie."
