Johnny Depp’s lawyer Laura Wasser slams Amber Heard’s ‘blatant attempt to extend fifteen minutes of fame’ as actress asks for divorce settlement case to be reopened
The actress has filed documents requesting more money from her settlement from her ex-husband
JOHNNY Depp’s lawyer has reportedly slammed Amber Heard’s request for their divorce settlement to be reopened.
Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny and his Rum Diary co-star Amber came to a £5.7million ($7million) settlement back in August, but TMZ are claiming legal documents have been filed by Amber requesting more.
In response, Laura Wasser, Johnny’s divorce lawyer, has reportedly said the move was “a blatent attempt to extend [Amber’s] fifteen minutes of fame” and “an embarrassing grab for additional and unwarranted attorney’s fees.”
This latest twist in the pair’s complicated end to their 15-month marriage comes after Johnny allegedly derailed the divorce settlement after Amber wrote a letter about domestic violence for the December issue of the fashion magazine Porter.
It is claimed that Johnny refused to cough up the money owed to her as the letter “violated the terms of their divorce”.
Shortly after their separation was announced in May, Amber requested a restraining order against her ex because he had allegedly hit her and thrown at phone at her during a fierce argument.
Their divorce settlement does include a confidentiality clause prohibiting her from talking about Depp.
In August Heard slammed Depp for giving her $7million divorce settlement money directly to charity – as it means he will get a charitable deduction.
Pirates of the Caribbean’ star Johnny’s reps confirmed on Thursday he had sent “the first of multiple installments” to Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the American Civil Liberties Union.
However, Amber’s team have hit out at the donation, telling TMZ: “If Johnny wishes to change the settlement agreement, we must insist that he honour the full amount by donating $14M to charity, which after accounting for his tax deduction, is equal to his $7M payment obligation to Amber.
