AN iconic rock band was forced to cancel a gig with hours to go after their frontman was struck down with a chest infection.
In a statement posted on Instagram the group confessed they were “sorry” and “saddened” to let their fans down.
The Darkness wrote: “It is with deep regret that we have to announce that The Darkness cannot perform in Wellington tonight, as Justin [Hawkins] has come down with a serious chest infection.
“Doctors have advised him to rest and told him that performance is out of the question.”
The statement continued: “Justin is devastated, as are the other band members.
“We hope to go ahead as planned in Auckland tomorrow, but please stay tuned for update. Thank you for understanding.”
Fans rushed to send messages, with one writing: “The Darkness are the hardest working, most dedicated band there is. Take care Justin, get well soon!”
Another said: “Thinking of you, buddy, wishing you a speedy recovery.”
And a third added: “Please rest and take care of yourself, Justin!”
In September Justin was snapped holding hands with new girlfriend Désirée Mishoe after splitting from wife Sarah.
The reported that Justin’s management confirmed he divorced his wife “some time ago”.
Justin and Sarah have one daughter together, who is aged nine, and lived in rural Switzerland.
