GEORGE Michael's former lover has claimed the singer hated Christmas and became hooked on chocolate and Coca-Cola as he reportedly battled a an addiction to anti-depressants.
The Mirror reports that Carlos Arturo Ortiz has opened up about their pair's romance, and declared George was deeply troubled prior to his death.
The former Wham! star was found dead on Christmas Day at the age of 53, and Ortiz has now alleged the singer was attempting to wean himself off medication he was taking to combat depression.
Ortiz told : "It seems very coincidental to me that he was found dead on Christmas Day because he told me he hated Christmas as there were never any children around...
“He told me he was addicted to anti-depressant medicine and trying to wean himself off it and confessed he was unhappy."
He also claims George mostly drank Champagne, but also binged chocolate and fizzy drinks during his troubled times.
Ortiz added: "All he drank apart from the Champagne was Coca-Cola which he told me he downed by the gallon and was addicted to along with chocolate."
Ortiz met the superstar in Australia in 2013 and they enjoyed a night of passion in Sydney.
He claims they met through a gay contact website and George invited him to stay in his suite at a luxury hotel near the city's iconic opera house.
They only spent one night together, but Ortiz admits the memories have stayed with him.
George's body was discovered at his house in Oxfordshire by his on/off boyfriend Fadi Fawaz.
Fadi, 40, said he had slept in his car the night before he found George dead at home in Goring.
He has since spoken to by police following George’s death, but he is not suspected of any wrongdoing.
Officials have yet to confirm George's cause of death three weeks after his body was found.
A source close to the paper: “Officers are stepping up the investigation into the days leading up to George’s death and focusing on those who came and went to see George.
“They may have vital information which could be of use.
“There are still vehicles that were near the property which police are trying to trace the owners of."
It is believed to have been the same hospital where he was treated for a bout of acute pneumonia which left him fighting for his life.
He was unconscious for three weeks in 2011 and is thought to have been left with scarring on his lungs.
