Musician Nick Cave reveals he felt ‘hopeless’ after 15-year-old son’s shock death falling from a cliff
Australian singer speaks in first interview since tragic accident 18 months ago
MUSICIAN Nick Cave has admitted feeling “completely hopeless all the time” in his first interview since his son’s shock death 18 months ago.
The Australian singer, best known as the frontman of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, was struck by tragedy in July 2015 when his 15-year-old son Arthur died after falling from a cliff at Ovingdean, near Brighton.
In his first interview since the horrific accident, the 59 year old said he regrets rushing back into the studio after the incident to record their album Skeleton Tree, which was released in September.
He said: “It was only a few months after Arthur died. It was too early. But it just felt important that I do it. You know, life goes on and all.
“It was crazy. Terrifying, really. I was a mess, big time. So was everybody, actually. It was a very difficult time.”
Nick, who also has son Earl, 16, with his wife Susie, along with sons Luke and Jethro, both 25, from previous relationships, performed his first concert in three years in Hobart, Australia on Friday.
His family’s trauma became the subject of the film One More Time With Feeling, released in September.
He added: “You know, I saw the things people wrote about the film on social media, the way the film seemed to open something very deep for people, and how so many people out there had lost people they loved, you know, just how many grievers there were.
