The highly-anticipated Apple Tree Yard, adapted from Louise Doughty’s bestselling novel, launched on Sunday January 22.

The first episode certainly had an impact – with shocked viewers hitting out at a "harrowing" graphic rape scene.

But who is in the cast and when will the episodes be on telly?

When is Apple Tree Yard on TV?

BBC’s new thriller series has been broadcast on BBC1 on Sundays at 9PM.

However tonight's finale airs at 9pm on BBC ONE.

The four-part drama kicked off on January 22, but fans will be able to catch up on the season on BBC iPlayer.

It will have to compete for viewers with Channel 4’s Homeland and ITV’s The Good Karma Hospital.

A married woman with children starts a secret steamy affair with another man – but he’s also got a partner and kids.

As character Yvonne Carmichael attempts to keep her philandering ways under wraps, her infidelity starts to catch up with her.

Following a life-changing act of violence, her life is flung into the spotlight when she is accused of a brutal crime.

The star of the TV mini-series is War Horse actress Emily Watson, who will play Yvonne Carmichael.

English actor Ben Chaplin, who is known for his role in Mad Dogs, has taken up the role of love-interest Mark Costley.

Also joining the all-star cast are Mark Bonnar, Adeel Akhtar, Lydia Leonard, Frances Tomelty and Rhashan Stone.

Why is the show deemed controversial?

The Sun's Bizarre column has been given first access to some of the racy scenes in the upcoming Apple Tree Yard.

Speaking about the racy sex scenes Emily Watson said: "The first thing I told the director was that I would not do nudity.

"Not because I’m a prude, but I’m vain and way too old to be naked on screen"

She added: “I have known Ben for a long time and we were very honest and straightforward about it. It was fun.”

Seven minutes into the first episode viewers will witness the first passionate clinch between the two stars, additional scenes feature twice more throughout the episode.

Is there a trailer for Apple Tree Yard?

Fans have been sent into an excited frenzy over a teaser clip for the new BBC series.

It shows Emily Watson’s character making her way across London before getting caught up in a raunchy affair with a married man.

Following the secret relationship, character Yvonne can be seen being led away in handcuffs – but was she responsible for the grisly crime she was accused of?
