'THIS WAS NOT SUICIDE'

George Michael’s cousin blasts star’s lover Fadi Fawaz over singer’s death and says he prays ‘justice will be served’

GEORGE Michael’s family have raised suspicions over the cause of the pop legend’s death for the first time, claiming: “This was not an act of suicide.”

The Wham! singer’s cousin Andros Georgiou, an ex-music producer who worked and toured with George during his heyday, became the first of his loved ones to publicly dismiss allegations the star killed himself.

The suggestion George, 53, deliberately took his own life came from posts on his on-off lover Fadi Fawaz’s Twitter account - and insiders have suggested the family could be about to go to war with the ex porn star.

Andros, 54, claimed in an explosive rant: “One thing is for sure, this was not an act of suicide.

“He should have been looked after by his so called friends. If I was around this would never have happened and I have to live with that the rest of my life.

“I have to pray that the police come to the conclusion I have and justice will be served.”

Andros spoke out after tweets from Fadi’s Twitter profile appeared on New Year’s Day, saying: “I was in a relationship with George Michael until I found him dead in bed.

“The only thing George wanted is to die. He tried to kill himself many times and finally he managed.

“We loved each other very much and were together almost 24 hours a day.”

The tweets came just seven days after the pop icon was found dead at his home in Goring-on-Thames on Christmas Day, aged just 53.

Fadi, 43, later claimed his account had been “hacked”.

Andros, who knew George since childhood - affectionately named him Yog - and made him godfather to two of his children, responded by accusing Fadi of spreading “lies”.

He questioned the nature of Fadi’s relationship with George, and his claim that he slept in his car before finding the singer dead at his home in Oxfordshire on Christmas Day.

In a Facebook message posted late on Sunday evening, he said: “I have been trying to hold back, but the more I am reading and the more I am finding out about Fadi I just can’t keep my mouth shut any longer.

“He was never with Yog 24 hours a day, they never lived together. He lived in one of Yog’s houses in Regent’s Park.

“And even if they were, why were they not together on Christmas Eve?  And why did he sleep in the car?  Too many questions have come up.

“Every day I get more angry at the lies I am reading. I pray that this nobody doesn’t earn a penny from Yog’s death.”

An insider said: “Andros has essentially taken the role of family spokesman by demanding answers to the many question marks surrounding George’s death.

“George’s relatives have so far held back from speculating publicly about the suicide claims on Fadi’s Twitter, but Andros’s outburst would suggest they have many concerns behind the scenes.

“If the mystery continues for much longer, the floodgates will open and Fadi could find himself under pressure from even more of George’s inner circle.”

Andros’s anger over George’s death is a stark contrast to the loving tribute he posted after the tragedy three weeks ago.

He said: “I lost a brother in arms. I can’t believe what has happened. He was a very special person to everyone he met.

“God takes Angels when he needs them. He must have needed Yog. Please rest in peace.  I love you.”

Andros fell out with George 18 years ago after warning that his lifestyle of drugs and partying would lead to his death, but they had planned a reunion before his passing.

He said: “I used to say I didn’t want the next time I see Yog to be at his graveside but now that’s exactly what’s going to happen. I’m heartbroken. I loved him so much and will miss him for the rest of my life.”

Despite their feud, Andros continued to write to George and publicly urged him to turn his life around.

He told The Sun in 2012: “I’ve been praying for his health and that he has cleaned up his act. But I’m not sure he has.

“Some of the things that have happened to George would have his mum turning in her grave...he’s been living in George Michael land for 14 years.

“For whatever this is worth, I still want my Yog back.”

A spokesperson for George labelled the suicide claims “speculation” but declined to comment, adding: “In the week since his tragic death there has been much comment and speculation concerning George and the circumstances surrounding his death.  There will inevitably be more in the future.

“The family remain devastated by his passing and have no wish to comment in relation to any such speculation, whether current or in the future. It would also be inappropriate to comment whilst the coroner's investigations are ongoing, even though as the coroner has stated, George's death is not considered suspicious.”

An official inquiry into the star’s passing remains ongoing, after an initial post-mortem proved “inconclusive”.

The Oxfordshire Coroner’s office is currently awaiting the results of toxicology tests before determining whether to open an inquest, while police continue to question witnesses as they seek to uncover the events which led to his death.
