After a string of racy BBC shows Apple Tree Yard promises to be the most explicit bonkbuster yet with five minutes of romps in the first episode

NEW BBC bonkbuster Apple Tree Yard will be the most X-rated this year — with five minutes of explicit romps in the hour-long first episode.

The thriller’s stars Emily Watson, 50, and Ben Chaplin, 47, will be seen having sex in a cupboard, toilet and an alleyway.

The first graphic scene comes only minutes after the 9pm watershed. TV shows abide by an unwritten rule they must not air “adult” content within 15 minutes of the watershed, although BBC guidelines state only that it should appear “some time after” 9pm.

The four-part series, an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Louise Doughty, is guaranteed to spark controversy when it is shown on Sunday.

It tells the story of scientist Dr Yvonne Carmichael, played by Watson, who has a reckless affair with Chaplin’s Mark Costley. It ends with her on trial at the Old Bailey.

The Sun has had an exclusive peek at the show before it hits screens — and the first lustful scene will come only minutes after the 9pm watershed.

Here’s how the action unfolds:

SEVEN MINUTES IN: The passionate first clinch between the two stars happens in a cupboard below the House of Commons and last one minute and 34 seconds.

Watson is seen straddling Chaplin with her tights pulled down.

She later gets lewd messages from her lover and writes him a letter saying their trysts are like “being eaten by a wolf”.

30 MINUTES: The main characters meet up again behind her husband’s back — this time in a lavatory for a 36-second knee-trembler.

48 MINUTES: Their third romp sees them getting down and dirty in an alley for one minute and 29 seconds.

But despite the explicit nature of some of the scenes, Watson insisted when she took on the role that she would not go naked.

She said: “The first thing I told the director was that I would not do nudity.

Not because I’m a prude, but I’m vain and way too old to be naked on screen.”

She said she was comfortable filming the steamy scenes because she was with old friend Chaplin.

She added: “I have known Ben for a long time and we were very honest and straightforward about it. It was fun.”
