Robert Carlyle teases fans about a Trainspotting spin off staring his character Francis Begbie
During the premiere of T2 Trainspotting Robert revealed his character has unfinished business
TRAINSPOTTING star Robert Carlyle has hinted his character Francis Begbie could star in a spin-off of the iconic franchise.
The 55-year-old told fans at the premiere of T2 Trainspotting that his character, who was the focus of Irvine Welsh’s latest book, the Blade Artist, could be making a solo return to the big screen.
Robert explained: “We've been talking about that, I am up for doing it.
“So maybe we ain't seen the end of Begbie just yet.”
In the latest film Begbie shows off a new side of his life after it’s revealed he’s become a father.
Speaking about the change in his character with the , Robert explained: “That is the first time you see maybe there is another side to this guy.

“There is something quite emotional about that.
“He's capable of feeling something more just rage, so I am pleased that that element of Begbie has been shown.”
Hinting again about the spin off, he added: “And maybe that sets up another film in fact because Irvine Welsh has written The Blade Artist.”
The film picks up 20 years on from the last one, and sees central character Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) return to Scotland to make amends with his friends,
Daniel "Spud" Murphy (Ewen Bremner) and Simon "Sick Boy" Williamson (Jonny Lee Miller), while avoiding the psychopathic Begbie, who has recently been released from prison.
