She was dropped by her record label Parlophone after her last album, No Shame, and she admitted returning to the studio has been daunting.

Speaking about working in Nashville, which is known as Music City, she said: “I’m in Nashville where everyone is really good. There’s so much legacy.

“I have to say it’s quite intimidating being here. People are really talented.”

It will also be the first album she has made since getting sober in 2019 and marrying Stranger Things actor David Harbour in 2020.

But it can’t all be bad because speaking on her Miss Me? Podcast, she added: “I wrote a song yesterday which was quite good, I’m happy with it.”

During her career, she has had hits with tunes including The Fear, Not Fair, LDN and Smile.

But more recently she has embarked on an acting career, which started with a stint in the West End play 2:22 A Ghost Story.

Lily, who now lives in New York, hasn’t scored a No1 since her 2014 album Sheezus.

Speaking last month, the singer said: “My children ruined my career.

“I love them and they complete me, but in terms of pop stardom, they totally ruined it.

“I get really annoyed when people say you can have it all because, quite frankly, you can’t.

“Some people choose their career over their children, and that’s their prerogative.

"But my parents were quite absent when I was a kid, and I feel like that really left some nasty scars that I’m not willing to, you know, repeat on mine.

“And so I chose stepping back and concentrating on them, and I’m glad that I’ve done that because I think they’re pretty well-rounded people.”
