Towie’s Dan Edgar admits he’s shocked that ex-girlfriend Kate Wright has been ‘getting close’ to footballer Rio Ferdinand
TOWIE's Dan Edgar has said he thinks it's "weird" his ex-girlfriend Kate Wright has been getting close to footballer Rio Ferdinand.
The Sun revealed Kate has been on a number of nights out with the former Manchester United captain but Dan is shocked by the match saying he "didn't think he'd be her type".
Speaking to the , Dan said: "I didn't think he would be her type at all.
"I know I've made mistakes in the past but I feel disappointed. I want her to be happy but this just seems a bit weird."
Dan and Kate dated on and off for six years before finally calling it quits before Christmas.
He said: "I can't see us getting back together after this."
Dan's comments come after he revealed he will "always have feelings" for her.
Speaking to BANG Showbiz at the National Television Awards, he said: "It didn't work out. We're good friends. I haven't spoken to her for a few weeks.
"I was with Kate for a long time so I think there will always be feelings there. She has an amazing body."
While he'd like nothing more than to get Kate back, the 26-year-old heartthrob admitted he's now learnt his lesson and will try and keep any future romances away from the camera because he thinks an on-screen relationship is too much pressure.
He explained: "I'm not dating at the moment. It's not easy having a relationship on TV, I know that now, but I guess it depends on the circumstances."
Despite the heartbreak and arguments he was heavily involved in last year, Dan has no plans to leave the popular ITVBe series but would like to try his hand at The Jump after his co-star Lydia Bright signed up to the winter sports show this year.
He said: "I think at the moment I've had quite an intense year last year so I got through that. At the moment I think it's a good platform to be on.
"I like The Jump. I would love to do it, I love skiing, I went in January. I'm not a bad skier. Never been approached for it before but who knows what could happen."
Meanwhile, sources close to Kate revealed she's taking it slow with Rio.
The former Manchester United captain, 38, has enjoyed a number of nights out with the reality TV star and mutual pals as they strive to keep the relationship away from the spotlight.
Pals close to the pair believe a full-on romance may still be some way off, as Rio is still grieving the loss of his wife Rebecca in May 2015 after losing her battle with breast cancer.
A source said: “Rio and Kate have enjoyed spending time with each other with other friends.

“There’s a real connection there but Rio is in no rush to turn this into a serious relationship.
“His number one priority are his three kids and he will always put their welfare in front of anything else.
“But Kate is very smitten with him and therefore happy to wait and see what happens.”
Kate, 25, has been a regular on the ITVBe reality show for two years and has quickly racked up a huge male fan base.
Her busty bikini selfies on Instagram has seen her follower count surge while her tiny waist has been a talking point online.
The pair are thought to have been introduced by mutual friends in the Essex area, where Kate is a familiar face due to her time on Towie.
She has been single after splitting from on/off boyfriend Dan Edgar, 26, which has been constant storyline in the reality series.
Since the tragic death of Rebecca at just 34 years of age, Rio has kept his distance from female company as he continues to mourn his wife of six years.
However, due to his retirement from football in 2015, he has been able to focus on TV work with a punditry job on BT Sport, while also enjoying a similar role with the BBC during their Euro 2016 coverage.
He’s also veered away from football on TV by appearing in the celebrity version of The Crystal Maze which formed part of Channel 4’s Say No To Cancer charity night.
