Katie Piper’s inspirational acid attack survival story is snapped up by Hollywood to be turned into a movie

The friend of a jealous ex-boyfriend threw acid into the star's face - but she hasn't let her scars stop her from stardom

KATIE PIPER has charmed the UK with her heroic story of overcoming a horrific acid attack to become a household name as a TV presenter.

Now, her inspirational life story is set to hit the silver screen - with the star revealing Hollywood has knocked on her door.

It could mean that the US is now beckoning for the star - who is sure to charm audiences Stateside as well with her tale of overcoming adversity.

She told the : "Somebody in America bought the film rights last year and they have renewed them this year."

Katie became a household name in 2008 when an ex-boyfriend arranged a pal to throw sulphuric acid into her face, leaving her with a series of horrific scars.

She was immediately treated in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, where the surgeons removed all the skin from her face before rebuilding it with a skin substitute and then a skin graft.

She still regularly undergoes medical procedures to this day and has since forged a successful career in the media.

However, she hasn't let the attack define her career - and she has since gone on to become a published author and achieved her dream of becoming a TV presenter.

She also launched a foundation in her own name in late 2009, which campaigns for the specialist treatment that Katie received to become more available in the UK and to help other burn victims.

In 2015, she married Richard James Sutton, and together they have a young daughter called Belle.

However, 33-year-old Katie has admitted that she turned to booze as she came to grips with her new life in the aftermath of the attack.

She told the : “Without meaning to, I started relying on alcohol to numb the exhaustion and get me through the days. I knew I needed to find a better way to handle the pressure. Especially when a friend said, ‘Wow, you drink a lot.’
