PHILLIP Schofield has branded a real life Apple Tree Yard cheating wife "selfish" during an interview on This Morning.
The presenter made the statement as he and co-host Holly Willoughby were faced with a women who had been cheating on her husband for three years.
Discussing the similarities between her life and the main character in the new BBC One thriller - a wife and mother played by Emily Watson who has an affair with a married man with children - the unidentified woman claimed her cheating made her a "better wife and mother".
Holly asked: "Why not get divorced and not have this big secret?"
The woman dubbed 'Pamela' replied: "I think it's kinder not to divorce, you hurt less people.
"Because you're not just divorcing your husband, you're divorcing your children, your friends, the community you're in, so surely it's kinder when nobody knows."

But Phillip was having none of it as he remarked: "It's just... selfish.
"Because your children are grown up so they have they own lives, your friends will probably stick with you, you'll probably lose the house – you're basically having your cake and eat it."
But unfazed by Phil's comments, Pamela responds: "In some ways I think, well why not have my cake and eat it?
"I think that’s okay and I really know I'm a better person for what I'm doing.
"I'm not nagging my husband, I’m not having a go at him, I’m happy, I make his dinner when he comes home.
"That frisson that I've had during the day has made me this smiley, happier person."
At the start of the interview viewers were also quick to comment on what appeared to be Holly rolling her eyes at the guest, as she turned to face agony aunt Sanders, at the suggestion her affairs made her a "better wife and mother".
One wrote on Twitter: "The look of disgust on @Schofe and @hollywills faces talking to the cheating wife 🙈 some people are so selfish! #ThisMorning #cheat"
While another added: "Did anyone else see holly willoughbys face just there? #ThisMorning 😱😱😂"
