Peter Kay Co-op Live Manchester gigs cancelled hours before he takes to stage as ‘gutted’ comedian issues statement
The shows have been rescheduled - scroll down for the new dates
PETER Kay’s upcoming gigs at Manchester’s new venue Co-op Live have been cancelled hours before he was due to take the stage.
The “gutted” comedian, 50, issued a statement to devastated fans ahead of tomorrow and Wednesday night’s shows.
After testing, the venue decided to postpone his two shows to 29th and 30th of April instead.
Peter Kay said: “I’m truly gutted as I know how disappointing this will be for everyone with tickets, but obviously it’s a brand-new venue and it’s important that everything is finished and safe for full capacity audiences.
“Fortunately, we’ve been able to reschedule the shows to next week, (I’ll have to miss my Bums & Tums class) but hopefully I’ll see you then.”
Co-op Live added: “Following our first test event on Saturday, regretfully we have made the difficult decision to reschedule our two opening performances by Peter Kay.
“These dates will move from 23 April and 24 April to Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April.
“It is critical to ensure we have a consistent total power supply to our fully electric sustainable venue, the completion of which is a few days behind.
“Rescheduling gives us the extra time we need to continue testing thoroughly. This is vital to satisfy the rigorous set of guidelines and protocols that are necessary for a venue of this size.
“Peter Kay has very graciously agreed to perform his record-breaking comedy at Co-op Live on 29 (rescheduled from 23) and 30 (rescheduled from 24) April 2024.
“All tickets remain valid and ticket holders will be contacted by their point of purchase.
“Refunds will be available for those who can no longer attend. We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this change will undoubtedly cause for some.
“We are thrilled to welcome Peter Kay as our grand opening act just a few days later than planned.”
Fans shared how gutted they were about the news on social media.
One wrote: “Just heard the gig in Manchester tomorrow is cancelled,” with three sad face emojis.
Another added: “Hectic.”
“Please tell me why I am finding this out on flipping Twitter and have not been emailed?!,” a third tweeted.
It comes after the venue’s test night with Rick Astley on Saturday night.
Peter made an epic comeback after 11 years back in 2022.
The funnyman stepped away from the limelight in 2017 due to “unforeseen family circumstances”.
However he did make some special appearances for a number charity specials in 2021.
The last time Peter had been on stage was for his The Tour That Doesn’t Tour Tour… Now On Tour in 2011.
In November 2022 he revealed that is stand-up tour – Better Late Than Never – would begin in December 2022 and wrap up in July next year.
Peter will visit cities around the UK such as Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle and Nottingham.
The comedian also has shows in Belfast, Glasgow, and Cardiff.
Peter also has a monthly residency at London’s O2.
He previously said: “Audiences in London have always been amongst the best in Britain, plus I think seeing the show could be part of a nice weekend away treat.
“It’s good to get back to what I love doing best, stand-up comedy and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now.
“And with the cost of living at an all-time high, ticket prices are starting from £35. The same price they were on my previous tour in 2010.”
