TV’s Andrew Marr hopes to ditch his leg brace next year after new treatment following stroke
BBC journalist flew to Florida for a new anti-inflammatory treatment
ANDREW Marr hopes to dispose of his leg brace next year after paying thousands of pounds for a new treatment in Florida.
The 57-year-old journalist and television presenter suffered a stroke in 2013.
In December, he sought medical attention in the US after his physical recovery plateaued.
He opted for an anti-inflammatory treatment, using anti-TNF (tumour necrosis factor) drug etanercept.
He told Radio Times magazine: “A lot of people said to me: ‘It’s not been passed by the FDA [Food and Drug Administration], not had double-blind trials, you’ve been fooled, what an idiot.”
But Andrew said even his “sceptical” physiotherapist noted an improvement in movement in his arm, fingers and ankle.
His journey is followed in BBC2 documentary Andrew Marr: My Brain, airing on February 14 at 9pm.
