Adele overcomes Grammys performance nightmare to be crowned the night’s big winner with FIVE awards
The British singer scooped up the most awards on Sunday night
ADELE had a night she will never forget at the Grammys 2017 - for a number of reasons.
After opening the ceremony with a rousing performance of her hit single Hello, the star suffered an on-stage disaster when she had to restart her tribute song to George Michael half way through after a glitch.
But her tears of disappointment and frustration after the performance soon turned to joy when she won Record of the Year for Hello closely followed by Album of the Year for 25.
The gongs meant the 28-year-old won all five of the awards she was nominated for on the night, and she openly wept as she thanked people for the accolades.
She even commented that she couldn’t accept the award for Best Album because she felt it should have gone to Beyonce, who was sitting in the front row also in tears.
Speaking about her comeback, she said that it “took an army” to help her get her latest album off the ground.
Adele said: “I struggled and I still do struggle being a mum but this made me feel in some way like I have got some of myself back again.”
But she glanced down to where Beyonce and her family were sitting and said: “I can’t accept this award because, for me, Beyonce, Lemonade was amazing.
“It was so monumental and so soul bearing. We saw another side of you that we don’t always get to see.
We adore you, you are our light. The way you make me feel, and the way you make my black friends feel, is amazing. I love you so much, I always have and always will.”
Earlier in the evening, Adele wouldn't have expected her night to end on such a high note, after her rendition of George Michael's Fast Love struggled to get off the ground.
After almost a minute of singing, the star stopped the band and swore, before insisting they start again.
She was clearly distressed about messing up the tribute, telling the crowd: "I can't do it again, not after last year, I can't mess this up for him.
"I'm sorry for swearing, I'm sorry [Grammy producer] Ken [Ehrlich].
"I'm going to start again, I'm sorry, I'm sorry for swearing."
The crowd was clearly behind her, with one shouting out: "You've got this!"
It wasn't the only performance of the night to suffer from a setback though, as Lady Gaga's duet with Metallica was another victim of live TV - as one of their mics failed to work.
joined forces with the heavy metal band to perform their track Moth Into Flame at Sunday night's awards ceremony.
But as the song began, it was clear there was a problem, as lead singer James Hetfield's microphone wasn't working and his voice couldn't be heard.
As the singers alternated between lines of the song, Gaga could be heard belting out the lyrics, but every time it was James' turn, the sound continued to fail James.
Eventually the star had to share Gaga's mic as they sang the song together before Gaga crowd surfed and shook her booty around the stage in a cropped T-shirt and hot pants.
However one performance that went without a hitch was Beyonce's, who debuted her pregnancy bump in public for the first time while performing her song Mother's Pride.
The Formation singer surprised her fans earlier this month when she announced she is expecting twins with husband Jay-Z.
Wearing a gold sparkling gown which features sheer detailing, the stars figure was on full display.
With an elaborate gold head dress, the star put on an ethereal performance with a number of dancers in flowing gowns dancing around her surrounded by flowers.
The performance also featured video footage of Beyonce with her bare bump on display being draped in fabric as more women appeared around her.
At the end of the song, the star grinned and blew lots of kisses to her husband and five-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, who was sat in the audience cheering her on.
Later in the show, Beyonce won her second award of the night, picking up the Best Urban Contemporary Award for her album Lemonade.
She switched her big headdress for a veil which matched her dress as she took to the stage to collect it.
Pulling a card out to read, Beyonce seemed a little breathless as she spoke about her inspiration for the album, saying the album existed to confront difficult issues.
She said: "Thank you to my beautiful daughter, my fans for bringing me so much happiness and support.
"We all experience pain and loss and my intention was to give those people a voice.
"I thank God for my family... it's important to show images to my children that show their inner beauty.
"I think it’s vital that we learn from the past."
With this in mind, tributes were also paid to Prince, who passed away last year, with Bruno Mars being one of the performers, as well as a tribute to the music of the Bee Gees, with the likes of Demi Lovato singing.

John Legend also performed with Cynthia Erivo as tributes were paid to all the stars of the music business who had passed away last year.
Over on the red carpet, Beyonce and Heidi Klum were among a string of stars who glittered with the Formation singer looking utterly stunning a floor-length glittery red gown which hugged her bump.
Chrissy Teigen showed off her enviable figure in a fitted cut-out crochet-style dress.
The model attended the awards ceremony with her 10-time Grammy Award-winning husband John Legend.
She wore her hair in loose waves and accessorised with a clutch bag.
Meanwhile Heidi glittered in a silver mini dress with metallic platforms.
The ensemble allowed the supermodel to show off her endless legs.
Not everyone did quite as a good a job on the red carpet though, with Jennifer Lopez and Katy Perry getting it wrong.
The Jenny from the Block singer rarely makes a fashion misstep but her flowing pink gown featuring a tulle bow neckline made her look a bit like a walking candy floss.
However the mother-of-two's stunning figure still managed to stand out thanks to the gowns keyhole front and thigh high split.
The star accessorised with a silver sparkling clutch and heels and struck her best poses for the cameras.
Also getting it a bit wrong was Katy, who looked like she couldn't decide what kind of dress she wanted to wear.
While the top half was a high necked, long sleeved shiny gold fabric, the bottom half was all feathers.
With her newly dyed bleach blonde hair, the singer's make up looked great, but the same couldn't be said for the outfit.
Another big name to miss the mark was Lady Gaga, who flashed lots of under boob in a black leather top which seemed to be missing most of the front and back.
It meant the star - who recently wowed at the Super Bowl - revealed her cleavage and the underside of her breasts, with the edges of the top only just covering her nipples.
She added a pair of black hot pants with chain detailing, fishnet tights and thigh high PVC platform boots.
