Adele blasts her estranged dad during Grammy Awards acceptance speech and praises manager for being her father figure
The mum-of-one, and potential newlywed, made the out-of-character remark on the stage at the lavish music ceremony
ADELE took the opportunity to slam her absent father during her acceptance speech for Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards - and declared she "doesn't love him".
The British songstress reigned supreme at the US music awards show on Sunday night - and made sure her estranged dad know that her success was in no part thanks to him.
Instead, she took the opportunity to praise her long-time manager Jonathan Dickins for his help in creating the multi-award winning album 25 - and compared him to the father she wished she had.
She told the audience: "Thank you to my manager because the comeback, as it were, was completely masterminded by him. And you executed it incredibly, and I owe you everything. We've been together for 10 years, and I love you like you're my dad."
The star then made the pointed remark and added: "I love you so, so much. I don't love my dad, that's the thing. That doesn't mean a lot. I love you like I would love my dad."
Adele's frosty relationship with her alcoholic father, Marc Evans, has been long documented, after he left her and her mum when she was just three years old.
In 2011, he exclusively spoke to The Sun and by his own words revealed his drinking 'made Oliver Reed look like a teetotaller'.
He said: “I was a rotten father at a time when she really needed me.
“I was putting away two litres of vodka and seven or eight pints of Stella every day.
“I drank like that for three years. God only knows how I survived it. I was deeply ashamed of what I’d become and I knew the kindest thing I could do for Adele was to make sure she never saw me in that state.”
However, he claimed at the time that the pair had healed their wounds, and that they had started establishing regular contact.
It was thought that following a cancer scare in 2015 they had patched things up further - though Adele's new remarks seem to suggest that the bond didn't last.
LATEST FROM TV & SHOWBIZ
Iconically private with her personal life, Adele's family relationship came into the public eye in 2012 when her dad announced in an interview that abandonment issues were the reason behind her unhappy love life.
Now happily settled with her Simon Konecki, who she referred to as her 'husband' in one of her FIVE acceptance speeches on Grammy night, Adele appears to have shut down the accusations forever.
She said: “Grammys, I appreciate it, the Academy, I love you, my manager, my husband and my son – you’re the only reason I do it.”
However, she later appeared to refuse the Album of the Year award, and instead praised her fellow nominee Beyonce - revealing she thought the Lemonade singer should have been the one to bag the gong.
But she glanced down to where Beyonce and her family were sitting and said: "I can't accept this award because, for me, Beyonce, Lemonade was amazing.
"It was so monumental and so soul bearing. We saw another side of you that we don't always get to see.
"We adore you, you are our light. The way you make me feel, and the way you make my black friends feel, is amazing. I love you so much, I always have and always will."
