Scarlett Johansson admits that ‘monogamy is hard’ and ‘a lot of work’ amid rumours of marriage split with husband Romain Dauriac

SCARLETT Johansson has discussed her dislike for monogamy amid speculation her marriage to French journalist Roman Dauriac is over.

The 32-year-old Hollywood beauty tied the knot with Romain in 2014 – but reports have suggested they quiet split last year.

Already once-divorced Scar Jo (she was married to Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds from 2008 to 2011) has long been vocal about her disbelief in monogamy.

Opening up in Playboy magazine, the star explained: “I think the idea of marriage is very romantic; it’s a beautiful idea, and the practice of it can be a very beautiful thing.”

But she continued: “I don’t think it’s natural to be a monogamous person. I might be skewered for that, but I think it’s work. It’s a lot of work.”

The Avengers star thinks that too much hard work in a relationship is a clear sign that lovers should walk away from each other.

“And the fact that it is such work for so many people — for everyone — the fact of that proves that it is not a natural thing. It’s something I have a lot of respect for and have participated in, but I think it definitely goes against some instinct to look beyond,” she said.

She also says that marriage changes a relationship – even if some people believe things carry on as normal after saying “I do.”

“I have friends who were together for 10 years and then decided to get married, and I’ll ask them on their wedding day or right after if it’s different, and it always is. It is,” she says.

“It’s a beautiful responsibility, but it’s a responsibility,” she added.

It’s not the first time Scar Jo has slammed monogamy – previously branding it “difficult” back in 2005 when she was dating heartthrob Josh Hartnett.

She said at the time: “I don’t think human beings are monogamous by nature. It’s difficult – you have to put a lot of effort into a relationship.”

She also warned that actors and actresses make bad relationships.

“I think it’s hard for actors to date each other because they are so damn moody. You are away from people constantly and having a relationship that is strictly by phone, it is miserable,” she said.

“Or if you say to him/her, ‘Hey, (even though) I am doing a very sexy scene with this very sexy girl/boy, I love you and I’m going to be thinking of you when I am rolling around in bed with this person!'” she added.
