Amanda Holden opens up about how therapy helped her deal with the loss of her baby boy
The Britain's Got Talent judge reveals she needed to speak to someone to cope with her grief
AMANDA Holden has revealed that she had to turn to therapy after the loss of her baby boy.
The Britain’s Got Talent judge, who will be back on our screens very soon, has revealed she struggled to cope with her grief.
In 2011 she suffered the devastating loss of her baby boy Theo, who was stillborn at seven months.
She went on to have daughter Hollie the following year, but this left her unable to cope with the grief about the loss of her son and the post-traumatic shock of almost dying after giving birth to her daughter.
Speaking to You magazine the pretty blonde said: “I had therapy for one month.
“It was like grief counselling; I wasn’t coping and had to do something about it, and I’m not a believer in taking antidepressants if you can find a way to avoid doing so.
“But I’m an incredibly pragmatic person and I understood I had to get someone to help me.”
She went on: “I went to see a woman and she talked to me about changing the way I thought, looking at my anxieties in a different way.
“It worked and then I stopped the therapy because it had served its purpose. For me it was about being given a new set of tools and moving on.”
She has stepped in for Holly before while the star was away on maternity leave, and admitted she enjoyed being able to show off a “different side” of herself on air.
The 46-year-old star told : “The main reason I was thrilled to stand in for Holly Willoughby during her maternity leave from This Morning was that I’d be able to show a different side to myself.
“I wasn’t wearing the big glam frock: I wasn’t judging people. I was talking to people in the news, covering a bit of fashion, a bit of cookery, a lot of mums’ issues.
“I loved every minute. Holly is incredible but if she ever does finally hang up her stilettos, that’s the job I’d really want to be considered for.”
Amanda already has a very busy work schedule on her hands, as she’s a judge on Britain’s Got Talent too.
And writing exclusively for the Sun previously about her 11th year on the show, she said: “I can’t believe I’ve been on the BGT judging panel for 11 years.
“It’s been a life-changing job, helping me become a presenter as well as an actress.
“I don’t want to risk inflating Simon’s ego too much, but I’ll always be grateful he asked me to get on board.”
