Gavin Rossdale was sensationally snubbed by The Voice contestants as co-judge Sir Tom Jones name drops Sir Paul McCartney

GAVIN Rossdale proved the number one reject on The Voice last night after popstar hopefuls plumped for the three other judges including Sir Tom Jones, who couldn't resist ANOTHER boast about his celebrity pals.

In a teaser for the Saturday night show, The Sun exclusively revealed the Bush star would be left humiliated when he ran out of potential recruits — after 17 turned him down.

Gavin then had to accept a supermarket worker who performs an operatic version of Britney Spears’ hit Toxic.

It was a less than positive end to the night for Daisy Lowe's dad.

He got competitive with Sir Tom over Bolton born The Voice contestant Linda Jennings after she belted out a version of The Long and Winding Road.

Attempting to secure Linda, 49, for his team he told her she was "very special" before adding: "You would complete my team because you're very individual."

Yet his kind words seems to pale in significance to Sir Tom when he opened up on his contacts book.

In his pitch he gushed: "I was in a club in London in the Sixties with Paul McCartney and I said 'Sir Paul could you write me a song?'

"And he said OK and that was the song - The Long and Winding Road.

"He said 'this is the song but it has to be your ext single' and I had a record coming out that week so I didn't get it.

"So that song has always been very close to me."

The Welshman's monologue was enough to convince Linda.

The bad news set the trend as Kit Rice chose Jennifer Hudson and cheeky Manchester lad Tim Gallagher admitted he liked how Will's pitch had a touch of criticism, so chose the trendy R n B star.

Victoria Kerley, dressed in a pretty floral top, followed suit.

Meanwhile other hopefuls have opted to join higher-profile judges, including Sir Tom Jones, 76, on earlier episodes.

The mentors — who also include rapper will.i.am, 41, and American singer Jennifer Hudson, 35 — have been far more successful in persuading performers to join their teams.

Viewers complained they did not know who Gavin was when he signed up to the show after its move to ITV.

The soft-spoken former frontman of rockers Bush was then branded boring because people could not hear what he said during the auditions.

A source said: “It is not the first time that a judge has been in the position of having to go with the last pick.

“Will.i.am had to on a previous series but I think he knew that the producers always saved the best for last so for him it was a tactical move.”

The source added: “Gavin has struggled to recruit singers all series because the other judges have a much higher profile than he does.

“They were joking at what point Gavin was going to press his buzzer on the last audition. He took it well, to be fair.”

Model Daisy Lowe, 26 — Gavin’s daughter by fashion designer and ex- Powder singer Pearl Lowe — blamed her dad’s woeful recruiting skills on his quiet voice.

She said: “He’s such a brilliant man but he’s quite softly spoken.

“He said they kept telling him that no one could hear him.

“He likes to be the calm one. He’s very nurturing and I think on that show he’s going to bring out the best in his team.”
