After Altered Images disbanded in 1983, Clare continued to entertain audiences with a solo career and acting roles.

She had her breakthrough role while starring as Susan in comedy drama Gregory's Girl back in 1980.

Producers originally objected to Clare starring in the flick because of a scar she had on her face from an incident that occurred while she was dancing at Glasgow College of Technology.
