Which characters return for the new series of Benidorm?

Many of the fan-favourite characters are back for this latest series – although the Garvey family is still absent.

Sherrie Hewson (Joyce Temple-Savage), Jake Canuso (Mateo Castellanos) and Tim Healy (Les/Lesley Conroy) were the first characters announced to make a return to the show.

But in May 2016, Tim fell ill whilst filming, resulting in him being written out of half of the series.

Tony Maudsley (Kenneth Du Beke), Danny Walters (Tiger Dyke), Josh Bolt (Rob Dawson), Paul Bazely (Troy Ramsbottom), Nathan Bryon (Joey Ellis), Adam Gillen (Liam Conroy) and the loveable Janine Duvitski (Jacqueline Stewart) all return.

Johnny Vegas playing Geoff Maltby and Elsie Kelly, playing his adorable mum Noreen Maltby, are both back, as well as his on-screen drunk sister Pauline Maltby played by Selina Griffiths.

It’s also been confirmed that Shelley Longworth would be reprising her role as Sam Wood for the ninth series having not appeared since Series 5.

Have any new characters been introduced for series 9?

The Solana Hotel has had an upgrade, in the form of the suave and sophisticated Nigel Havers.

The posh star is starring as a conniving conman in the sun-soaked sitcom.

Speaking of his experience in the Spanish resort, known for its boozing, he said: “They have lots of cheap alcohol which means everyone in Benidorm is completely smashed, most of the time! It’s so hideous to look at.”

Is Joan Collins be in the latest series of Benidorm?

Joan Collins has returned to Benidorm for Series 9.

The Hollywood actress reprises her role as Crystal Hennesey-Vaas, the CEO of the Solana Hotel Group.

Joan has had a recurring role in the show since 2014.

Where do they film Benidorm? Is the Solana a real hotel?

The Solana is the hotel featured in the show where the characters stay.

However, although the hotel featured is a REAL hotel, it is not called The Solana - and there are two of them.

The pool scenes are filmed at the Sol Pelícanos Ocas in Benidorm.

The room scenes are filmed in the Acuariam II Apartments, which overlooks the pool.

But the reception area including Kenneth’s Blow n’ Go salon, is a studio set.

The evening scenes where the guests are in ‘Neptune’s’ is actually filmed at the Morgan's Tavern, which is almost directly across the road from Sol Pelícanos Ocas.
