The Nightly Show panned AGAIN by viewers as new presenter John Bishop performs in drag after promising Madonna performance

ITV have continued to come underfire for The Nightly Show - after John Bishop failed to win back viewers.

The late night chat show - which was presented last week by David Walliams - has been panned by the audience at home for its "dated" jokes.

It didn't fare too much better at the start of John Bishop's run on The Nightly Show on Monday, even though it aired immediately after the latest instalment of smash-hit Broadchurch.

From the start of the show, John teased that Madonna would be on the show, only for him to emerge in drag in a parody video of 80s hit Vogue.

He also only had one guest - Roger Daltrey from The Who, and viewers criticised him for talking over him in the awkward interview.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: "I see #TheNightlyShow with John Bishop went down as well as it did with David Walliams! #PleaseMakeItStop"

Another agreed and added: "not since Eldorado has a TV channel got it so wrong with a show. Absolutely shockingly bad #thenightlyshow"

One fan thought that the channel had alterior motives and wrote: "Itv wants the nation In bed early. That's the hidden agenda behind #thenightlyshow"

While another said: "WTAF. Just cancel it. It's dated, not in the least bit funny, and not even vaguely connected to the news. Please GO!!!"

Speaking about the interview with rock legend Daltrey, one fan wrote: "Did they only have one guest on #TheNightlyShow because John Bishop just goes on and on and no-one can get a word in edgeways?"

And others were left bewildered by the cringey Madonna impersonation and wrote: "Why does John Bishop keep saying that Madonna is going to perform?? She obviously isn't even there. #thenightlyshow" and "I loved the really relevant "madonna performing vogue" segment, don't think that's been done before #thenightlyshow"

A third person agreed and added: "Need to change production team. Don't understand why John Bishop did lip sync as Madonna. Off his bucket list? Irrelevant/strange!"

And a fourth added: "So the "performance by Madonna" on #TheNightlyShow was actually just John Bishop dressed up as her and parodying the "Vogue" video..."

However, there were some viewers who tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, and wrote: "I think that @JohnBishop100 did a pretty decent job and a good start to his first appearance on #thenightlyshow Well done Bish!"

While someone else wrote: "Catching up with #TheNightlyShow with John Bishop I love him x"

The Scouse performer will be running the show for the entire week before being replaced by another guest presenter.

While the show has received dire ratings, bosses are said to have found what they think is the perfect ingredient to keep it alive - Bake Off dup Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.

It was revealed last week that the pair were in talks to be part of the presenting line-up.

A show source: “They are two of the most popular people on television so they could do this.

“Everyone has their fingers crossed.”

They added: “The producers are talking to Mel and Sue about taking part in the show, and they are desperately hoping they will pull it off as the feeling is that they can turn this around.”

  • The Nightly Show airs weeknights at 10pm on ITV1.
